Grant Updates:

FY 2010 Grant Opportunity:
The last grant opportunity for FY2010 is Arts in Health Care
Application Deadline:  January 4, 2010 for projects occurring between April 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010. This grant category supports the presentation of arts programs, artists in residence programs, and training programs in health care and nursing home facilities and in agencies/centers serving people who are elderly. FY2010 Grant Suspension:
Reduced resources at the State Arts Council do not enable us to offer 4th Quarter Mini Grants & Artist Entrepreneurial grants. Therefore the January 4, 2010 deadline for both grant categories have been suspended. 

Grant opportunities will once again be available for FY2011 with projects occurring between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011.

FY2011 Grant Guidelines:
Please check the  What’s New?  box of our website for updates on FY2011 grant deadlines, workshops, and guidelines. 

The first guidelines posted will be in the areas of:

Arts Education Grants (AIR):  to support artist residencies in schools  
Cultural Conservation Grants:  to support conservation of publicly owned artworks.
EPD (Estimated post date):  mid January, 2010. 

All other grant guidelines & schedule for workshops:
EPD (Estimated post date):  February of 2010.

2010 NEA Appropriation Increased
On October 30, President Obama signed into law the final version of the Interior Appropriations bill passed by Congress on October 29, with $167.5 million in fiscal year 2010 for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), an increase over the 2009 level of $155 million.

The $12.5 million funds will enable more public investment in the arts around the country.

Folk Arts Advocate and National Leader Bess Lomax Hawes is Mourned (1921-2009)
In NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman’s press release on the passing of Bess Lomax Hawes, he states that she “is remembered by her friends at the National Endowment for the Arts for her 16-year tenure as Director of the NEA's Folk & Traditional Arts Program, during which she inspired her colleagues to re-imagine how a federal agency might serve often overlooked artists and communities across this nation.”

"After her retirement in 1993, the NEA named a special Heritage Fellowship in Ms. Hawes's honor to recognize the significant contributions of an individual who contributed to the conservation of our nation's artistic heritage through education, advocacy or cultural preservation. In the same year, President Bill Clinton acknowledged her lifetime of work by awarding her a National Medal of Arts.”
